Gun Threat Puts Manassas City Schools On Lockdown UPDATED

UPDATED: Manassas City Schools were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after 911 dispatchers received a call of someone with a gun at a school.

UPDATE from Manassas City Public Schools at 4:48 p.m. — Busses can be expected at stops at least an hour past the normal scheduled time due to the delayed dismissal at all MCPS schools. Students may go home by bus or parent at this time. Car Riders may be released to parents in the car loop. Please have your photo ID with you when you arrive. Each school will also be communicating detailed information directly to their parents.

MANASSAS, VA — Manassas City Public Schools were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon when 911 dispatchers received a call of someone with a gun at a school, said Councilman Ian Lovejoy on Twitter. About 1 p.m. Manassas City Police received a call from Prince William County Police Emergency Communications Center reporting an unknown male said he had a gun and was experiencing a mental health crisis near a Manassas City Public School.

The phone call was disconnected before police could get more information from the caller. Manassas City Public Schools immediately implemented a lockdown at all schools. After thorough searches of every school, police deemed all buildings safe, the department said.

No students, staff or officers saw a person with a gun near any city school, authorities say. Students and staff will be on a delayed release schedule and officers will remain on scene at all schools as students are dismissed.

The incident is still under investigation at this time and a subject has not been located.
