Gunfire Exchange Kills Manassas Man, Injures Centreville Man

A Centreville man was charged in a shooting that killed a Manassas man. Police believe the men exchanged gunfire.

CENTREVILLE, VA — A Manassas man was killed Wednesday in an exchange of gunfire that Fairfax County Police believe may have been drug related.

Police had responded around 9:35 a.m. to the 14600 block of Route 29 (formerly Lee Highway) in Centreville. Police found Michael Alcantara, 18, of Manassas, with upper body gunshot wounds. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but Alcantara was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, Hassan Kanu, 18, of Centreville had upper body gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Kanu was charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and remains hospitalized.

Detectives believe both men were in a vehicle and stepped out before exchanging gunfire. Police found two guns and drugs at the scene and believe the incident is tied to drugs. The shooting is not believed to be random.
