WOODBRIDGE, VA — Two dogs were rescued and a cat died during a house fire in the Manassas area Sunday night, according to Prince William County Fire and Rescue. There were no resident injuries, but one resident was displaced.

Units responded to the 7600 block of Visionary Court around 7:54 p.m. after a neighbor reported the house on fire. A second alarm was requested as the fire department initially believed there was a person trapped inside. Firefighters determined the home's only resident was not home, and two dogs were rescued. A cat died from injuries during the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to the home's structure, prompting the building official to deem the home unsafe to occupy. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.
