How Manassas Residents Are Dealing With The Coronavirus

We asked Manassas residents on social media to tell us what they're seeing at local stores — and boy, did they tell us.

MANASSAS, VA — After days and days of news reports and warnings about the new coronavirus and constant updates about what's open and closed or what you need to do or stock up on, we're now all in it. We're living in the new coronavirus — also called COVID-19 — reality.

We asked Manassas residents on Facebook to tell us what they're seeing out there in the retail spaces. Are there long lines? Was there enough toilet paper, milk and cleaning products available?

The responses we received included tips on which stores might have what you're looking for. Melyssa Stratton Webb had some useful information. "Walgreens on Grant was cleaned out, but I heard the manager say a delivery was coming in this afternoon," she wrote Friday morning on the Manassas Patch Facebook page.

For Manassas residents willing to go for a drive, reader Erin Embrey said the Safeway on South Lakes Drive in Reston still had plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, cases of bottled water and cleaning supplies.

Residents were lined up at the Manassas Costco on Sudley Manor Drive Friday morning, according to a photo posted on the Manassas Facebook page by reader Kristin Schmitz. Other readers said they went to the same Costo Friday morning but turned around and left when they saw the long line. A reader who made it into Costo said the store is limiting customers to two cases of water.

Reader Wendy Bolton said the Walmart on Liberia Avenue was out of toilet paper, water, wipes and all cleaning supplies mid-afternoon Friday. But the Walmart did have some Swiffer products, milk, orange juice, bread, crackers, cheese, and fresh fruit and vegetables. The Walmart didn't have any canned fruit or canned vegetables, though.

Other commenters shared insight on what we may expect in the coming days as we ride this out together:

  • Amanda Thompson: Home Depot has cases of water for almost $4.
  • Jennifer Matthews Malloch: No hand sanitizer to be found anywhere. Walmart on Liberia has been hit hard on everything.
  • Teresa Lopez: Dollar General on Sudley had TP and paper towels. Getting spotty on the shelves but still had it around 1 p.m. today.
  • Mary Coppola Heslep: More important, what does the line at Total Wine look like?
