IRS-Tea Party Scandal: Manassas Group Targeted
Organizers: "Manassas Tea Party was one of those at the center of the attack."

The Manassas Tea Party says it was one of the conservative organizations faced with extra hurdles and unusual delays in receiving tax-exempt status from the IRS, according to a post by organizers at the MTP website.
President Barack Obama announced the resignation of acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller on Wednesday night.
The Justice Department launched an investigation Friday into the extra scrutiny applied by IRS employees on tea party applications and whether high-ranking members of the IRS misled or lied during congressional testimony in 2012, according to the New York Times.

"The Manassas Tea Party (MTP) was one of those at the center of the attack by the Internal Revenue Service," according to the statement at the MTP website. "Our organization submitted tax-exempt paperwork in 2010, but the IRS failed to respond until the 2012 election cycle, and did so with the extensive list of probing questions."
Organizers say in the statement that they recieved tax-exempt status in Jan. 2013, but only after acquiring legal representation with 26 other tea party groups.
