Lady Raiders Top Osbourn for Second Time

The Stonewall girls basketball team in a win over Osbourn Friday night.

 The Stonewall Jackson Lady Raiders played host to the Lady Eagles of Osbourn Friday night in a Cedar Run District showdown. The two teams had already battled once earlier in the season with Stonewall handing Osbourn a 100-21 loss.

The game Friday night would turn out to be another lopsided victory for Stonewall, but the Osbourn team was able to prevent a repeat as they were able to keep the from gaining a large score margin.

This time the Lady Raiders topped the Eagles by a final score of 84-33.

 Osbourn was able to score first and took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. That would be the only time the Lady Eagles would lead. Stonewall led 14-4 after the first quarter .

Stonewall really opened up the lead in the second period. The Raiders scored 25 points in the quarter while holding the Eagles to only four points. After a dominant first half, Stonewall led 39-8.

     Stonewall continued to dominate in the second half. The team's relentless defense put a ton of pressure on the Osbourn team and the Eagles had trouble cracking that pressure.

Osbourn  was able to perform much better offensively in the second half as the Eagles scored 25 second half-points. The Raiders were able to put 45 points on the board in the second half, which ultimately led to Stonewall's win by a final of 84-33. The top performers in the game were:

The first time the two teams played this season, Osbourn scored two first half-points and ended up with only 21 for the game. The Eagles also allowed Stonewall to score 100 points in that game.

The second time around Osbourn showed some improvement, holding the Raiders to 84 points and putting up 33 points of their own. It was another tough loss for the young Eagles team, but this game showed progression. Stonewall proved to be the far superior team Friday night, but Osbourn showed that they are still working to improve each and every game.

 Stonewall improved their record to 10-6 overall (4-0 in the district) after the game and The Lady Eagles fall to 5-14 overall (1-5 in the district).

Stonewall will be back in action on Tuesday as they are set to host Heritage at 7:30 p.m. Osbourn is back in action today as they will travel to play Heritage at 4:00 p.m.
