Lifeguard Tryouts May 31 For Prince William County
Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation will stage lifeguard tryouts May 31 in Manassas. Applicants must be at least 15.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — We're not talking "Baywatch" here, but something that's a lot more realistic. Namely, the Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for lifeguards. As such, it's holding a hiring event 5-7 p.m. May 31 at Splashdown Waterpark, 7500 Ben Lomond Park Road in Manassas.
Anyone interested (and job seekers must be at least 15) might be surprised at the thoroughness of the tryout. First of all, there's a personal interview, followed by a swim test that includes swimming 200 yards, retrieving a 10-pound brick from 12 feet of water, and to see whether applicants can tread water for two minutes without using their arms.

However, applicants who interview well and pass the swim test will receive free lifeguard training that, according to Parks and Rec aquatics specialist Kat Fish, normally costs around $155.
