GAINESVILLE, VA—George Calendar had a secret, so the Gainesville resident recently decided to share it with co-workers by asking the following question: "What would you do if one of your co-workers told you he won the lottery?" Their response was a quick, "Yeah, right."

Yeah. Right. Calendar did, in fact, win the lottery—or at least his own little slice of it. The 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy bought a ticket at BJ's Wholesale Club at 5100 Wellington Road in Gainesville, and matched all five numbers in the Feb. 17 "Cash 5" drawing. Hello, $100,000.

"I had to do a double take," Calendar told lottery officials. He had his numbers randomly chosen by a computer. His chances of winning were 1 in 278,256.
