Man Kidnapped Child, Stole Car, Nearly Drove Into Baby's Mother In Manassas: Police
A Manassas man was arrested on Sunday after abducting an acquaintance's child and driving away, the police department said.
MANASSAS, VA — A Manassas man kidnapped an infant after an argument at a store on Sunday, the Prince William County Police Department said.
The child was not injured, authorities said. The child's mother, a 22-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries in an earlier assault.
Authorities identified the man as 30-year-old Deyvon Marquette Newman. Newman is charged with felony child neglect, abduction, attempted malicious wounding, grand larceny, assault & battery, driving without a valid driver’s license, use of cell phone while operating a motor vehicle, transportation of unrestrained child.

He is being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. His court date is pending.
Authorities said Newman and the adult victim were acquaintances. The pair were at Gabe's store on Sudley Road in Manassas when an argument escalated, according to the police report.

"While inside the store, the accused forcibly took the infant child from the victim and fled
the store," the police department said. "The accused then got into the victim’s vehicle and drove away without properly securing the infant child."
As he drove away with the child, Newman also drove directly towards the adult victim. She had to dive out of the way to avoid being hit, authorities said.
Officers eventually found Newman and the infant on River Bend Way. He was taken into custody without further incident. A family member picked up the infant.
