Man Jumped To His Death From Manassas Parking Garage Roof: Police

A man died on Wednesday after jumping from the roof of a Manassas parking garage and landing on train tracks, authorities said.

MANASSAS, VA — A man died after jumping from the roof of a Manassas City parking garage on Wednesday, authorities said.

The Manassas City Police Department has not publicly identified the man, as their investigation is ongoing.

Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities learned of a man who was threatening to kill himself by jumping off a bridge. Police officers did not know where the man was.

"All available officers began to search overpasses in the area," the police department said in a report. "Surrounding law enforcement jurisdictions were notified."

At 2:30 p.m., police officers found a dead man on the train tracks near the parking garage at 9102 Prince William Street. Witnesses told authorities that they saw the man jump from the roof of the parking garage.

The medical examiner came to the scene to transport the body and assist in the investigation. The police department said more information would be released as it becomes available.
