Manassas Health Inspections: 15 Violations At 1 Facility

The Prince William Health District recorded violations at facilities around the Manassas area during recent inspections.

MANASSAS, VA — Several facilities in the Manassas area recorded violations during recent health department inspections between June 28 and July 3.

COVID-19 restrictions have relaxed around the state, and health inspectors conduct most restaurant and other health inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection. Other violations are addressed later, and an inspector may conduct a follow-up inspection to ensure compliance.

  • Applegates Restaurant & Lounge, 10800 Vandor Ln Manassas, VA 20109
    • Date inspected: June 28
    • Total violations: 9
      • There was no verifiable employee health policy was not available at the time of the inspection.
      • A hand washing sign was not posted at the hand sink in the bar area.
      • A container of reheated sausage was placed in the walk in cooler completely covered 1.5 hour at 97F.
      • Several of the cold holding units were missing an ambient air thermometer.
      • The facility was using single service containers as storage and other food service uses.
      • There were a few tables that were being held up with wooden levels, there was food equipment that was not properly working in the facility, also there was several cold holding units that were not properly holding 41F or below.
      • The 3 compartment sink and other sinks/areas had significant spacing that is not easy to clean behind.
      • There was wooden utensils present that were used to cook with.
      • The outside trash receptacles doors and or top was open.
  • Taqueria Guadalupana, 8562 Mathis Ave Manassas Park, VA 20111
    • Date inspected: June 28
    • Total violations: 15
      • Food employee eating on the tortilla's preparation area table.
      • A food employee failed to wash her hands before engaging in food preparation and putting on new gloves.
      • Observed employees peeling fruits (mangoes) with their bare hands.
      • A sign or poster that notifies food employees to wash their hands is not provided and/or is not clearly visible at the warewashing handwashing sink used by food employees.
      • No hand drying provisions were provided at the handwashing sinks in the warewashing and cooking area.
      • Uncovered shredder lettuces container in the 3 doors refrigerator.
      • Using a bowl to dispense rice. Food in contact with soiled equipment or utensils.
      • The food-contact surfaces of the following equipment were not observed sanitized: All cutting boards.
      • A big container of beans cooked yesterday at 57°F in the Walk in cooler. Beans was not cooled within 2 hours from 57ºC (135ºF) to 21ºC (70ºF); and/or within a total of 6 hours from 57ºC (135ºF) to 5ºC (41ºF) or less.
      • Single-service articles (napkins) are improperly stored (in the employee toilet room and on kitchen the floor).
      • The nonfood contact surface of the wooden shelving holding the tortilla machine is not designed or constructed to be easily cleanable.
      • Toilet room door is not tight fitting. and/or provided with a self- closing door.
      • There is not a toilet paper dispenser in the employee toilet room.
      • All doors and light switchers are not cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. There is ice buildup on the walk-in freezer floor and door.
      • Less than 10 foot candles of light was noted in the dry storage area.
  • Splash Down Water Park Beach Break, 7500 Ben Lomond Park Dr Manassas, VA 20109
    • Date inspected: June 30
    • Total violations: 1
      • Hot water is not available in sufficient quantities to meet the peak hot water demands throughout the food establishment. It was observed at 100*F. Establishment will take serving utensils to the nearby Coney Island Cafe for proper cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Splash Down Water Park Paradise Pizza, 7500 Ben Lomond Park Dr Manassas, VA 20109
    • Date inspected: June 30
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed pizza under heat lamp hot holding at improper temperatures (100*F).
