Manassas Health Inspections: Violations At 3 Facilities

The Prince William Health District recorded violations at facilities around the Manassas area during recent inspections.

MANASSAS, VA — Several facilities in the Manassas area recorded violations during recent health department inspections between June 6 and June 13.

COVID-19 restrictions have relaxed around the state, and health inspectors conduct most restaurant and other health inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection. Other violations are addressed later, and an inspector may conduct a follow-up inspection to ensure compliance.

  • Winwood Children's Center, 7830 Old Linton Hall Rd Gainesville, VA 20155
    • Date inspected: June 9
    • Total violations: 2
      • Food was being held in non-food grade containers.
      • The clean dish rack was rusted and chipping.
  • Springhill Suites Gainesville, 7921 Gateway Promenade Pl. Gainesville, VA 20155
    • Date inspected: June 12
    • Total violations: 7
      • A hand washing sign was not posted at the bar area sink.
      • There was no hand soap at the hand sink at the bar.
      • There was food scraps in the hand sink.
      • There were cartons of milk (48F) and cherry yogurts (53F) in the Edge Star reach in coolers.
      • The hobart heat dishwasher was out of order, the 2 Edge Star reach in coolers in the front were not holding proper cold holding temperature (46F) each. One of the Edge Star reach in coolers had ice build up in the back.
      • There were no irreversible test strip indicators for the high temp dish machine in the facility.
      • There was a charger port in the clean utensils bin.
  • La Quinta Inn & Suites, 7408 Centreville Road Manassas, VA 20111
    • Date inspected: June 13
    • Total violations: 8
      • Employees and conditional employees are not aware of the reporting procedures concerning information about their health and activities if they are suspected of causing, or being exposed to a confirmed disease outbreak caused by Typhoid fever (caused by Salmonella Typhi), Salmonella (nontyphoidal), Shigella spp., Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Hepatitis A virus or Norovirus.
      • This food establishment has not established procedures for cleaning up vomiting or diarrheal events that happen in the facility.
      • No disposable towels were provided at dispenser of the hand washing lavatory in the kitchen.
      • Water from the handwashing sink at kitchen was measured at (81 °F) a temperature less than 100°F.
      • Boxes of single-service and/or single-use articles are stored on the kitchen floors.
      • A non-approved chlorine in the kitchen form sanitizing food contact equipment. No warewashing during the inspection.
      • Not approved drain boards. Air drying clean equipment and utensils on a cloth towel.
      • The water heater / boiler serving the food service establishment is no longer operable.
