Manassas Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint For Late August

The Manassas City Police Department is planning a sobriety checkpoint on Aug. 28 in the area of 8915 Grant Avenue, the police said.

MANASSAS, VA โ€” The Manassas City Police Department plans to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Aug. 28 from midnight to 5 a.m. in the area of 8915 Grant Avenue, the department said Thursday.

The goal of the checkpoint is "to detect and apprehend people driving under the influence and to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving," the police department said.

In 2018, 34 percent of all traffic fatalities in Virginia were alcohol-related.

"Consuming even a small amount of alcohol can affect your ability to drive safely and to always plan a sober ride home," the police department said.
