Manassas Restaurant Inspections: Violations At 5 Locations

The Prince William Health District cited violations at 5 locations in Manassas and Haymarket during their recent restaurant inspections.

MANASSAS, VA — Officials from the Prince William Health District inspected multiple restaurants across Manassas and Haymarket from Sept 1. to Sept. 7. Inspectors noted more than 30 violations at Manassas-area restaurants.

Though some coronavirus restrictions are returning around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct many restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department also performs a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

    • Total violations: 9
      • Management, food employees or conditional employees were not aware or informed of their responsibilities in reporting symptoms or diagnosis of diseases transmissable through food.
      • This food establishment has not established procedures for cleaning up vomiting or diarrheal events that happen in the facility.

      • Management, food employees or conditional employees were not aware or informed of their responsibilities in reporting symptoms or diagnosis of diseases transmissable through food.
      • This food establishment has not established procedures for cleaning up vomiting or diarrheal events that happen in the facility.
      • The handwashing facility located at the bar area is blocked, preventing access by employees for easy handwashing.
      • The handwashing sink is not equipped to provide water at a temperature of at least 100°F through a mixing valve or combination faucet because the hot water handle is in disrepair.

      • Scoop in ice stored improperly with handle down in ice.
      • Wiping cloths improperly stored between use, not in chemical sanitizing solution.
      • Spray bottle of chemical degreaser stored with food (honey mustard packets) and single service items.
      • Equipment washed early this morning was confirmed to have not been sanitized properly as 3 vat sink had not been set up.

    • Note: This is a pre-opening inspection. The facility has been approved to serve food to the public.
      • The ceiling finish of the food preparation, warewashing, food storage, walk-in refrigeration units areas shall be smooth, durable, easily cleanable and non-absorbent, install approved ceiling finish at the food preparation, warewashing, walk-in refrigeration units and food storage areas.
      • The grease trap shall be located to be easily access le for cleaning. Relocate or rearranged the 3-compartment legs, which are blocking access to the grease trap.
