MANASSAS, VA — A 69-year-old Manassas woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday night in Carroll County, according to the Virginia State Police.

Investigators determined that 67-year-old Thomas P. Southard of Manassas was driving southbound on Interstate 77 around 8:32 p.m., when his 2004 Acura MDX veered off the left side of the roadway and struct an embankment. The car flipped over near the three-mile marker and Southard suffered minor injuries.

Pamela J. Stewart, who was a passenger in the Acura, was ejected from the car. She was taken to a nearby hospital but later died. She was not wearing her seatbelt, according to police.

Southard, who was wearing a seatbelt, was charged with failure to maintain control.
