MEA Picks Council, School Board Candidates

The Manassas Education Association Political Action Committee (MEA-PAC) has made endorsements for city council and school board candidates for the May 1 general election.

The Manassas Education Association Political Action Committee (MEA-PAC) has made endorsements for city council and school board for the May 1 general election.


MEA-PAC is endorsing city council candidate incumbent Mark Wolfe and the following school board candidates: newcomer Ilka Chavez and incumbents R.J. "Jack" Magee, Art Bushnell and Scott Albrecht.


According to a press release issued by the committee, the MEA asked all registered city council and school board candidates to respond to a questionnaire and then held interviews with each candidate who returned a questionnaire. Candidates who did not respond to the questionnaires were not considered for endorsement.

"This is one the most important elections that our city has ever faced. Your MEA PAC has worked extremely hard to determine the best candidates that we believe will collaborate with MEA and support public education," read the press release.

The recommendations of the MEA-PAC interview committee were ratified by the Board of Directors of the Manassas Education Association, the release stated.

MEA-PAC is the political action arm of the Manassas Education Association (affiliated with both the Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association), which represents over 350 teachers and educational support professionals employed by Manassas City Public Schools.
