Mixed Media Art on Display at NOVA-Manassas

“Freefall” and other works by Amy Richardson will be on display at NOVA-Manassas during November.

Mixed media artwork by Amy Richardson will be on display from Nov. 5 to 25 in Colgan Gallery at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. A reception to meet the artist is scheduled for Nov. 12 from noon to 1:30 p.m. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Richardson uses a mixed media process involving silk screening, traced monotype, painting, drawing and collage to create, dislocate, mutate, splice and combine images from the natural world to form entirely new environments that exist beyond the boundaries of nature. She depicts transformation by using space and forms on the picture plane in such a way that the viewer can perceive multiple environments within a piece.

Richardson’s art has been exhibited throughout the United States and has appeared in New American Paintings and Studio Visit. Born in Pennsylvania, Richardson earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at Kutztown University and a master’s degree in fine arts at Illinois State University. She has taught art at community colleges in Illinois and Florida.
