Narcotics Task Force Arrests 19, Seizes Pot and Xanax

A regional narcotics task force, involving personnel from three local police departments, has rounded up 19 individuals and seized marijuana and prescription medications, the Prince William County police announced Friday.

Operation Growing Pains, which began in February, involved detectives from the police departments of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park, according to Jonathan Perok, a Prince William County police spokesman. The operation is part of an effort to combat drug use and addiction among young people in the region.

Undercover detectives made deals involving cocaine, LSD, psilocybin, pharmaceutical pills, marijuana and concentrated marijuana “wax,” Perok said. As a result, detectives obtained arrest warrants for 26 individuals, 19 of whom are in custody, and executed search warrants at four locations in Manassas and Prince William County:

• 15192 Bannon Way, #303, Woodbridge
• 9061 McClellan Common, Manassas
• The residence of a juvenile in Gainesville

The goal of the operation was to deter drug use among teens and young adults, Perok said. When an arrest was made, those who sought help for drug use or addiction issues were provided with the necessary resources.

Since the operation included the arrest of younger offenders, the Prince William County Police Department said it will provide follow-up information through its social media forums “to those who are concerned about suspected drug use and/or addiction with their children.”
