VIRGINIA — Novant Health UVA Health System wants community groups and residents to contact the health care system before bringing donations to its facilities as a way to avoid spreading the new coronavirus, or COVID-19. The health system operates hospitals in Manassas, Haymarket and Culpeper.
Anyone interested in donating goods and services should contact NHUVA.SR@novanthealth.org prior to making any donation, the health system said Friday. Once donation information is received, a community liaison officer will respond with instructions on when and how to complete the donation.
"Out of safety for our community and team members, we are asking that no donations be brought to the hospital without prior approval and receipt of delivery instructions," Novant Health UVA Health System said. "We’re in this together, and together, we will better serve our community."
When contacting the health system about donations, residents should include detailed information about goods or services that are available for donation and a contact phone number. The health system is currently accepting only:
- Masks (unused), including homemade masks of any kind
- Protective eye wear
- Hand sanitizer
- Face shields
- Gowns
- Gloves
- Bleach wipes
- Individually wrapped (non-refrigerated) commercially made food and snack items
The Novant Health UVA Health System, like most hospitals, has toughened its visitation polices to reduce the risk of transmitting the coronavirus. The hospital system has suspended all visitation, except for laboring mothers who can designate one person to be with them and patients who are minors who will be allowed one parent or guardian to remain with them.
