OHS Football Season Kicks Off

Osbourn football opens season with familiar opponent

The Osbourn High School football team will begin the regular season Friday, taking on Brooke Point High School.

The Eagles have kicked off the season for the past six years against the Blackhawks. The two teams split the series, with Osbourn winning in 2005, 2006, and 2011 and Brooke Point winning three in a row between 2007-2009.

“As always, Brooke Point is a great opening game for us. They are a fast and physical team and I think that is why we match up so well against each other,” Osbourn head coach Steve Schultze said.

Brooke Point is a team that has proven to be a formidable opponent year in and year out. As a matter of fact, every year that Osbourn has defeated them, the Eagles advanced to the regional championship game that season.

“When you beat Brooke Point, that’s when you know you’ve got a good squad. I have a lot of respect for their coaching staff and they do a great job of preparing for us,” Schultze said.

The Blackhawks battled injuries last year, but still managed to make the playoffs and finished with a 5-6 record. The Eagles are coming off a 12-1 record last year after losing in the state semi-final game to Stonebridge High School.

The game this Friday, August 26, is the Eagles home opener and begins at 7 p.m. at James J. Leo Stadium.
