Osbourn Blows by North Stafford to Reach Finals

The Osbourn boys basketball team beat North Stafford on Friday night to earn a trip to the regional championship game.

The game stayed fairly close for most of the first half but Osbourn eventually ran away with it to beat North Stafford, 65-47 in a regional semi-final game.

The win guarantees a spot in the fight for the regional championship and also earns the Eagles an automatic trip to the state tournament. The win comes just two days after the Eagles beat G.W. Danville in the first regional game.

The Eagles had been nothing short of spectacular all season and they made sure to keep it that way last night.

Osbourn is one of the best teams in the state and opposing teams know they must bring their best game when they play the Eagles. North Stafford did just that early on in the game as they trailed Osbourn by only three points with four minutes to go in the first half. But the Eagles went on a run right before half-time and took a 39-29 lead at the half.

After hanging tough in the first half, North Stafford just couldn't keep up after intermission. Osbourn played stingy defense all night and had built a 51-37 lead by the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was also controlled by the Eagles as they ran away with the game to win 65-47. The top performers in the game were:

Jay Lane--24 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals

Corey Bedford--14 points and 13 rebounds

Raphael Edwards--12 points and 13 rebounds

It was just another day at the office for the Eagles as they continued to dispose of their competition. They dominated the boards all night and played solid defense which were the keys to the victory.

The win earned Osbourn a trip to the regional championship game and an automatic trip to states.

The Eagles will travel to Garfield on Saturday evening for the title game which will tip off at 7 p.m. Get out there and support OHS as they shoot to bring the regional championship trophy back home!
