Osbourn Girls Lose Nail-Biter at Heritage

The Osbourn girls lost a close battle at Heritage on Saturday evening.

The Osbourn Lady Eagles basketball team traveled to Heritage on Saturday to take on the Pride. It would turn out to be a very good game as the two teams gave it all they had until the final buzzer.

Heritage was able to take the lead early, but Osbourn made a late run in the second half that would come up just short. Heritage was able to hold off the Lady Eagles and take the win by the skin of their teeth as the Pride won the game by a final score of 54-51.

Heritage set the tone as they jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter. Osbourn struggled offensively in the first quarter as they were only able to tally six points while Heritage put 14 points on the board, giving the team an 8-point lead heading into the second quarter.

Things started to click for Osbourn on the offensive end as they were finally able to get something going in the second quarter.

Heritage was able to continue their solid play, which led to the teams trading baskets in the second period. Heritage had the edge in the second as they outscored the Eagles 16-15, giving the Pride a 30-21 lead heading into halftime.

Both teams came out with some decent intensity at the start the second half , but neither team could get much going on offense. Both teams were playing solid defense and both were having trouble getting shots to drop on the other end. Osbourn outscored Heritage 12-11 in the third to cut the lead to eight points heading into the final quarter.

Osbourn kicked into high gear in the fourth, making them seem like the superior team on the court.  If Osbourn had found that gear a little bit earlier, the Eagles likely would have walked away with a victory.

The team's fourth-quarter run was just a little bit late. The Eagles outscored Heritage 18-13 in the period, but the Pride were able to hang on for a 54-51 victory.

Osbourn's performance in the first quarter really hurt the team. The Eagles fell behind early, and although they played better the rest of the game, they could not overcome the early deficit.

The leading performers in the game for Osbourn were:

Mikal Johnson with 21 points

Samantha Frowen with 14 points

Bailey Dufrene with 12 points

Heritage was led by Kayla Tibbs who scored 13 points and Sydney MacDonald who scored 10 points.

It was another tough loss for Osbourn, but the Lady Eagles continue to fight as they have all season. The Manassas team will have another opportunity to play Heritage as they are set to play again this Thursday at Osbourn.

Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles will be back in action Monday night as they  travel to Battlefield for a 6:00 p.m. game.
