Osbourn High Student Dies From Flu Complications

School mourning sudden loss of sophomore Joshua Long.

Osbourn High student Joshua Long died Sunday due to complications from flu and pneumonia, according to school officials.

News outlets, includuing myfoxdc.com, report that he became ill on Thursday. Long died Sunday at Children's Hospital.

In a letter sent home to parents and posted online, Osbourn Principal John Werner noted Long's death.

"This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school, especially our students," Werner wrote, noting a Crisis Intervention Team would be available for students, parents and staff.

"Counselors are available for any student who may need or want help coping with this loss," he wrote. "We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources."
