Osbourn Wins First Game of Holiday Tourney

The Osbourn High School boys basketball team beat Robinson.

The Osbourn High School boys basketball team traveled to Lake Braddock Tuesday to take on Robinson High School in the first game of the holiday tournament.

The players had been practicing hard to prepare for the tournament, despite being out os school for winter break.

When Osbourn stepped on the court Tuesday afternoon, they were a bit rusty and Robinson jumped out to an early lead. Robinson built a 14-4 lead by the end of the first quarter—a surprise to Osbourn players, coaches, and fans as the Eagles are usually a very high-scoring team.

Osbourn was able to get their offense going in the second quarter and they battled back to close the gap to 29-22 at the half.

Head coach Mike Dufrene reminded his players that they were much better than what they had shown in the first half and he was expecting a lot more down the stretch.

The half-time speech worked and Osbourn turned up the intensity when they came out for the second half. The Eagles put up 40 points in the second. They also played better on the defensive end, holding Robinson to only 24 points in the second half.

By the time the final buzzer rang out, Osbourn had battled back to win the game 62-53. It wasn't the prettiest victory, but the Eagles will take it as they are now 7-0 for the season.

Osbourn was lead in the victory by Robert Carter who scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. The Eagles also got a double-double from Raphael Edwards who tallied 18 points and pulled down 10 boards.

Osbourn will look to these two guys as well as some of their other stars to produce Wednesday as they take on the winner of the game between Hylton and Herndon. If you want to get out over the holidays and support the Eagles, tip off will be at 5:45.
