Outgoing Councilwoman Attends Last Meeting Amid Supporters

They came dressed in pink—the official color of the Sheryl Bass write-in campaign—to thank her for her years of service.

Nearly everyone who spoke at Monday evening's council meeting thanked council member Sheryl Bass and acknowledged it was her last meeting on the Manassas City Council.

Bass, who served nine years on the school board prior to being appointed to the council in 2009, is losing her seat to newcomer Ian Lovejoy after he received The result of the convention among a group of citizens who organized a write in campaign for Bass, which fell short by less than three percentage points.

But Bass said she will not be going anywhere fast. "There's too much dedicated to what we've done here in the city, too much invested," she said.

In fact, she's already signed on to be on the board of directors for Historic Manassas, Inc.—a nonprofit that organizes most of the events in Old Town, among other things. 

Bass said she's been been involved in the city for a long time, even prior to being appointed on the council and school board, and that wont' change.

She still plans on being involved with the Lion's Club and dancing with the Manassas Ballet Company, where she also serves as president of the board of directors. 

She will also continue to serve on a couple committees and the 's Campus Advisory Board.

But Bass did admit her Monday nights will be more free, and she will be spending more time doing yoga after she recently finished up instructor training.
