Pedestrian Hit, Killed In Manassas; Driver Charged: Police
A 50-year-old man died on Saturday after a pickup truck hit him while walking on Sudley Road. The driver fled the scene, police said.
MANASSAS, VA — A 50-year-old man died on Saturday after a pickup truck hit him on Sudley Road in Manassas. The driver fled the scene and was later arrested, according to the Prince William County Police Department.
On Monday, authorities identified the victim as Alvaro Rene De Leon Alvarez. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver, 53-year-old Norma Rosas Bustos, was arrested on Sunday. She is charged with one count of felony hit and run.

The police department said her court date is pending and she is being held on a $50,000 secured bond.
If convicted, Bustos could face up to 10 years in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.

The crash occurred around 1o p.m. on Saturday on Sudley Road near Portsmouth Road in Manassas. Investigators said De Leon Alvarez was crossing the street when Bustos hit him with her 2004 Dodge Ram 1500.
Bustos kept driving after the crash, according to the police report.
The police department said De Leon Alvarez was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk. Authorities also noted that drugs, alcohol, and speed were not factors in the crash.
