GAINESVILLE, VA — A minivan fatally struck a pedestrian in a Gainesville crosswalk on Friday morning, the Prince William County Police Department said.

Authorities have identified the pedestrian as 72-year-old Chyi Mao of Gainesville. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Investigators identified the driver who hit Mao as a 77-year-old woman from Gainesville. The police department has not announced any criminal charges in connection with the crash.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Somerset Crossing Drive and Forkland Way in Gainesville. Investigators said Mao was using the crosswalk on Somerset Crossing Drive when a 2011 Honda Odyssey hit him.

First responders arrived and pronounced Mao deceased, according to the police report.

Authorities noted that the driver remained at the scene of the crash. Investigators believe that speed, drug use, and alcohol use were not factors in the crash.
