Pedestrian Walking On Shoulder Dies In Manassas Area Crash, Driver Cited
Prince William County Police say a 90-year-old man was struck while walking in a non-sidewalk area.

MANASSAS, VA — A pedestrian walking on the shoulder of a road died in a crash Monday in the Manassas area. Police have since charged the driver.
Prince William County Police had responded around 4:18 p.m. Monday to the 10100 block of Lake Jackson Drive, which is south of Manassas city limits. Police say a 2021 Mercedes Benz Sprinter van heading east on Lake Jackson Drive hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking on the shoulder, as there was no sidewalk at the crash location.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries later that evening. He was identified as Gary Paul Wilson, 90, of Manassas.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene and was not injured. Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.
An investigation found the van driver was distracted when the crash occurred. On Wednesday, investigators obtained a court summons for a traffic citation. Russell Anthony Carolla, 68, of Manassas, was charged with careless driving and was released on a court summons.
