Police: Baby's Death Leads to Child Neglect Charges

Parents, both 21, facing felony charges after 9-month-old girl found unresponsive, according to Prince William County Police.

A small child was found dead Sunday in a Nokesville home and the parents are now facing charges related to the baby’s care after allegedly leaving the child unattended for 16 hours, according to Prince William County Police.

Adam Jerell Vince Alexander, 21, and Nokesville Jasmyne Alexandria Alexander, 21, both of the 10200 block of Aqua View Court, are facing charges of felony child neglect.

Officers responded to the home at 1 p.m. Sunday. The child, 9 months old, was unresponsive and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The investigation revealed that the infant’s parents…left the child in her crib for approximately 16 hours without checking on her welfare,” according to police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok.

Detectives learned that the infant was placed in her crib around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and left unattended until 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

“The parents noticed a potential breathing problem 4 weeks prior to this incident but did not receive medical care for the infant,” Perok said in a statement, noting the baby had not had routine doctor visits in the past 7 months.
