Police: Bogus UPS Deliveryman Went to Wrong Apartment

Gainesville man charged with attempted burglary: Prince William County police.

A Gainesville man tried to kick down the door of a Manassas-area apartment Sunday night to confront an acquaintance, police said, but he discovered that he had gone to the wrong apartment.

Bryan Christopher Banks, 20, of 7637 Northington Circle in Gainesville, has been charged with attempted burglary, according to the Prince William County police. His next date in court is July 10.

At 10:59 p.m. Sunday, police officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress at an apartment in the 11900 block of Coverstone Hill Circle in Manassas, according to a police report. An apartment resident told police that an unknown man had knocked on their door and said he was with UPS. The man then tried to kick down the door.

The resident contacted police and the suspect fled, the report said. The officers identified Banks as the suspect, and he was located at his residence, where he was detained without incident.

The police investigation revealed that Banks went to the apartment to possibly confront an acquaintance over on ongoing dispute, the report said. But the acquaintance did not live at the apartment, and Banks did not know the residents. Following the investigation, he was arrested.
