At 2:11 p.m., officers responded to a report of a trespasser. A homeowner told police that her dog was barking at a man who had been hiding in a bush on her property. The man fled toward a nearby creek and the woman called police.
Officers found the man walking along the creek and he allegedly brandished a crowbar and raised it toward the officers in a threatening manor, according to Perok.

The man allegedly refused several commands to drop the crowbar and officers sprayed him in the face with pepper spray before he crossed the creek into Fairfax County. Officers followed the man and continued to instruct him to stop.
“During that encounter, the man turned and, in close proximity, faced officers while raising the crowbar,” according to Perok. “Officers fired at the man, striking him in the upper body.”
No officers were injured in the incident. The investigation continues and charges are pending.
