Police: Sexual Assault in Gainesville Area

Investigators seeking public's help after incident Wednesday night.

A woman was sexually assaulted while walking in Gainesville on Wednesday night, according to Prince William County Police.

The victim, 19, told police that she was walking in the area of Route 29 and Gainesville Square Shopping Center when a man approached her from behind and pushed her down an embankment.

He sexually assaulted her while she fought him for several minutes. The victim eventually got away and climbed out of the embankment. A citizen stopped after hearing the victim screaming for help.

The suspect reportedly was last seen running into the woods near Route 29.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male, 25-35 years old and 5’6” tall. He had a muscular, but thin build, short dark crew cut hair and no facial hair. The man was wearing a white T-shirt or tank top and baggy jeans.

He may have some injuries to his face, shoulder and hands from the struggle. He’d been seen riding a bike in the area prior to the incident.
