Prince William Detective Dies Unexpectedly

Juan Pena was a 15-year veteran with the force and working in the Homicide division when he died.

Prince William County Police officers are mourning the unexpected death of one of their own. Homicide Detective Juan Pena died Tuesday.

Virginia State Police is investigating the death, but a spokesperson notes the death does not appear to be suspicious, according to NBC Washington.

Pena joined the force in 2003 and had served as a Patrol Officer and School Resource Officer before time in the Violent Crimes Bureau as a Robbery Detective, and most recently as a Homicide Detective.

“Juan cared deeply for his family, friends, and fellow department members, and his smile and kind heart showed everyday through his encounters with those he loved and cared for,” according to a statement at the department’s Facebook page.

Pena is survived by his wife and children.
