Prince William Gives Biden His Biggest NoVA Super Tuesday Victory
Joe Biden took Northern Virginia by storm Super Tuesday, winning his largest percentage of votes in the region in Prince William County.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Former Vice President Joe Biden took Northern Virginia by storm on Super Tuesday, winning his largest percentage of votes in the region in Prince William County where 37,416 voters, or 52.98 percent of the county, voted for him compared with second-place finisher Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who received 18,438 votes, or 26.11 percent.
Biden performed strongly in all the jurisdictions in Northern Virginia. Loudoun County was his next strongest jurisdiction in the region where he won 36,209 votes, or 50.55 percent compared with 18,087 votes, or 25.25 percent for second-place finisher Sanders. Prince William and Loudoun counties were the only jurisdictions in Northern Virginia where Biden passed the 50 percent mark.
On a statewide basis, returns Wednesday morning showed Biden with more than 53 percent of the vote, while Sanders had 23 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) had nearly 11 percent and Bloomberg came in below 10 percent.

Voters turned out in record numbers in Virginia on Super Tuesday, including in Prince William County. With votes totaling more than 1.3 million, this year's Democratic primary in Virginia far exceeded the 782,900 votes cast in the 2016 primary when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton beat Sanders in a landslide. The turnout also surpasses the previous record of 986,000 votes cast in the 2008 Democratic primary.
In Prince William County, 70,629 votes were cast in Tuesday's primary, 63 percent higher than the turnout of 43,398 in 2016 and 78 percent higher than the 39,746 votes cast in the county in the 2008 Democratic primary.

Biden also performed extremely well in the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, but slightly down from county-wide numbers. In the City of Manassas, Biden received 2,321 votes, or 46.81 percent, compared with second-place finisher Sanders who received 1,438 votes 29 percent. Virginia state Del. Lee Carter (50th), who represents the city in the House of Delegates, endorsed Sanders and appeared Saturday at a Sanders campaign event in Springfield, the Vermont senator's final campaign appearance in Northern Virginia prior to Super Tuesday.

In the City of Manassas Park, the race between Biden and Sanders was the closest of any jurisdiction in Northern Virginia, although Biden still won by a wide margin. Biden received 765 votes, or 44.43 percent in Manassas Park, compared with 592 votes, or 34.38 percent of the total count, for Sanders.
In Manassas, the voter turnout totaled 4,958, 59 percent higher than the turnout in the 2016 Democratic primary. Manassas Park saw a 70 percent increase in voter turnout, from 1,013 votes cast in 2016 compared with 1,722 votes in 2020.
Biden won all precincts in Prince William County except for one. Sanders won the Yorkshire precinct in Prince William, with 44.8 percent of the vote compared with 36.2 percent for Biden. The only precinct Biden lost in Manassas Park is Precinct Two — 42.2 percent to 36.7 percent. Manassas Park Precinct Two is adjacent to the Yorkshire precinct in Prince William county. Biden did not lose any precincts in the City of Manassas
Precinct Two is one of only three precincts in Manassas Park. "It’s largely working class with 50-year-old+ Cape Cod-style homes and is heavily Latinx," Del. Danica Roem (D-13th) wrote Wednesday in a tweet.
Roem said her 13th House district "had the most polarizing results" in Prince William County. Biden won the Heritage Hunt precinct in Gainesville with a high voter turnout one of the highest vote percentages of almost 70 percent, she said.
Biden also performed exceptionally well in the southeastern part of Prince William County, getting more than 60 percent of the votes in several precincts in the area.
His best performance, however, was in northwestern Prince William County. In the Alvey precinct, just north of Haymarket and west of Route 15 near the border with Fauquier County, Biden won 70.1 percent of the vote. In the precinct, Biden was followed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg with 18.4 percent and only 5.8 percent of the vote for Sanders.
