Season Comes to an End for Lady Eagles

The Osbourn Lady Eagles basketball team lost on Monday night, which brings their season to an end.

The Osbourn Lady Eagles basketball team lost to Battlefield Monday evening when the two teams played at Stonewall Jackson High School.

It was a game that determined who would move on to play against Stonewall on Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles’ leading scorer, Mikal Johnson was sick and unable to perform at her normal level. With Johnson being limited, and the rest of the team struggling to get it going offensively, it eventually led to Battlefield running away with a 50-36 victory.

The loss ended the season for Osbourn.

Battlefield jumped out to an early lead. Neither team was dominant on the offensive end during the game, but it seemed as though the Bobcats were just slightly better all night long. At the end of the first quarter, Battlefield led 12-8.

The teams basically reversed roles in the second. Both teams continued to struggle offensively, but Osbourn was able to outscore the Bobcats, 12-9 in the period and it turned out to be the only quarter that Osbourn would win.

After a fist half, Battlefield had the lead 21-20.

When the teams came out for the second half, it was still anyone’s game. Both teams were in position to make a potential run that could lead to a victory. But it was the Bobcat team that stepped up to the challenge.

The Battlefield defense was able to hold the Lady Eagles to only five points in the third, while the Bobcats scored 12 points of their own. This gave Battlefield an 8-point lead heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, the Osbourn fans were looking for the Eagles to make a strong run as they have in the past. But not this time. The Lady Eagles just couldn’t get it going and it didn’t help that their lead scorer was feeling ill.

Battlefield ended up outscoring Osbourn 17-11 in the fourth to run away with a 50-36 victory. The leading performers for each team were:

Osbourn                                                         Battlefield

Bailey Dufrene with 10 points                      Amber Lewis with 22 points

Samantha Frowen with 10 points

Osbourn’s season is now over and the Lady Eagles will begin preparation for next season.

Head coach Emily Kellogg said, “Tomorrow is the first day of next year’s season and we need to put in the time to see the results we want to see. Good thing is we have youth, tenacity, and time on our side.”

Osbourn’s girls have some very strong young talent that should begin to shine next year. If the Lady Eagles work hard in the offseason and come back an improved team with more maturity and experience, Osbourn could potentially make a run at a district title.
