Victim Dies Following Tuesday Shooting In Manassas: Update

The shooting happened in the area of Leighton Place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, causing heightened security at some Manassas schools.

MANASSAS, VA — The victim in a Tuesday afternoon shooting in Manassas has died, according to police. Earlier today, police reported that the victim was taken to the hospital as a result of the shooting while another person was in police custody as a result of the incident.

Police responded at 12:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting in the 10000 block of Leighton Place. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At this time, police said the shooting doesn't appear to be random.

Police also said Metz Middle School and Dean and Round Elementary Schools were secured as a precaution during the initial phase of the investigation. That status has been lifted and while officers remain at some schools as an added safety measure, police said there is no threat to students and all Manassas City schools will be released on their normal schedules.
