Stonewall Loses to Loudoun Valley in Cedar Run Match-up
The Stonewall Jackson boys lacrosse team loses to Loudoun Valley, 11-2.

The Stonewall Jackson boys lacrosse team lost a Cedar Run match-up with Loudoun Valley 11-2 on Thursday evening. The Vikings were lead by good goaltending by Matt Lower and a great attack by seniors Gavin Sullivan and Will Taylor, both who scored 3 goals.
“Their goaltending was great tonight,” said Stonewall Jackson coach Anthony LePore, “he made some saves when our guy didn’t and because of that we had to play from behind for most of the game, and we couldn’t play the game we wanted.”
After the second quarter ended without the Raiders giving up a single goal to the Vikings, there was a brief glimmer of optimism. The Raiders made it 4-1 at halftime thanks to a goal by senior attacker Ty Kashur, a little more than two minutes into the second quarter.
Stonewall had a couple of other opportunities to close the gap, but Lower was up to the task and prevented Stonewall from scoring.
When the second half began, two goals in the first 88 seconds, by Taylor and Sullivan and another by Gary Christensen one minute later gave the Vikings a 7-1 lead and the rout was on.
“They had a definite speed advantage,” said LePore, “we just couldn’t do much of anything to stop them tonight.”
The other Stonewall goal was scored by senior attacker Nick Betonti with about 7:30 left in the game. Sophomore goaltender Matt Caron stayed in the entire game, and despite the allowance of goals, LePore had some kind words for him.
“I may have thought about switching, but he gives us a better opportunity to clear the ball out of the zone,” said LePore.
The Raiders now have a rest of a few days before playing in the Woodgrove Lacrosse Tournament at Woodgrove High School from April 18-20. The Raiders will play Edison, Mount Vernon and Woodgrove high schools on all three nights.
