Strawberry Festival at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

Strawberry Festival Returns to Machen’s Grove (Ellanor C. Lawrence Park), June 21, 2-3:30.

In 1888, in Centreville, James Machen held a strawberry festival at Walney, his family farm. The Fairfax Herald reported that it was “pleasant and successful.”  A “goodly number of pretty girls were present” and several resounding temperance lectures on behalf of the Good Templars were made. Join us June 21, 2-3:30 pm, as we revive this fondly remembered tradition. Enjoy  fresh, homemade strawberry ice cream, croquet & badminton. Trying your hand at an 1880s school lessons in pen and ink, make  & wear your very own handlebar mustache and have fun taking photos with our 1880s carnival cut-outs. $8 a person includes ice cream and other activities.
