Strawberry Festival Returns to Machen’s Grove (Ellanor C. Lawrence Park), June 21, 2-3:30.
In 1888, in Centreville, James Machen held a strawberry festival at Walney, his family farm. The Fairfax Herald reported that it was “pleasant and successful.” A “goodly number of pretty girls were present” and several resounding temperance lectures on behalf of the Good Templars were made. Join us June 21, 2-3:30 pm, as we revive this fondly remembered tradition. Enjoy fresh, homemade strawberry ice cream, croquet & badminton.
