Teen Fatally Struck By VRE Train Near Manassas

A 13-year-old girl walking on a bridge was struck and killed Wednesday by a VRE train near Manassas, according to Fairfax County Police.

MANASSAS, VA — A 13-year-old girl walking on a bridge was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon by a Virginia Railway Express train in the area of Bull Run Bridge near Clifton, according to Fairfax County Police. The victim, a student at Lake Braddock Secondary School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girls and two family members, a 13-year-old boy and a 22-year-man, had been hiking in the area. Around 3 p.m., the two teens were walking on the bridge when a train approached. The boy was able to get out the way but the girl was hit. No identification was immediately released.
