The Edge to Participate in Mason Miles Run/Walk

George Mason University's Prince William Campus hosts 5k run and 2-mile fun walk.

George Mason University in Manassas is holding its second annual run/walk event, Mason Miles from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

The event will offer free t-shirts for those who register and participate. Prizes will be awarded for first place male and female runners and walkers and there will be a post-race lunch and award ceremony.

Several of the school's departments, including the Mason Center for Team and Organization Learning (The EDGE) are sponsoring the event. Other local supporters include Mason Police, The Freedom and Aquatics Center and Mason Athletic Police.

The EDGE, which partners with the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center and is a part of the Mason Center for Team and Organizational Learning,  opened on October 1, 2009. Sue Czarnetzky, a representative of the club, said The EDGE brings “hands-on experiential learning programs offering thought provoking yet fun team development activities and workshops.”

With various target age groups, the center designs programs to meet the needs of the university, local middle and high schools, community groups and organizations  by designing workshops based on team and developmental theory.

So what’s so special about The EDGE and the Mason Miles event?

The EDGE has a spectacular climbing course that offers fun and challenging obstacles. As a special addition to the race, the club is opening its field for an Open Climb from 1 -3 p.m., directly following the run/walk.

Funds from the event will go to the Kyle Wilson Foundation. Kyle was a former Prince William County firefighter and Mason alum who lost his life in the line of duty several years ago.

“The fact that the proceeds are donated to the Kyle Wilson Foundation is key…” said Czarnetzky.
