Gas prices are at a seven-year high this turkey day. Before you travel, see how much you can expect to pay at the pump.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — If you're among the millions of Americans traveling this Thanksgiving, you may be in for some sticker shock at the gas pump.
Gas prices are at a seven-year high heading into the holiday weekend, according to a recent AAA report. As of Nov. 24, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.40.
Last year, gas prices hovered around $2.12 per gallon just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

How much can you expect to pay at the pump in the Fredericksburg area? AAA data shows the average price for a gallon of gas in Prince William County was $3.27 on Wednesday. The City of Manassas average was $3.24 per gallon. Both of these numbers are near the Virginia average of $3.25 per gallon, but below the national average of $3.40 per gallon. People in the western United States are paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. As of Nov. 24, gas prices were as much as $4.70 in California, $3.96 in Nevada, $3.87 in Washington state and $3.78 in Oregon.
Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kentucky are enjoying the nation's lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.99 to $3.18 per gallon.

Destinations vary this Thanksgiving, but AAA says the top five destinations this year are Orlando, Anaheim, Dallas, Phoenix and Hawaii.
