Trial for Triple Murder Suspect Postponed

The trial for Jose Reyes-Alfaro, who is accused of killing three Manassas residents shortly before Valentine's Day 2011, has been postponed until next year. 

The trial was set to begin Monday, April 30, but was rescheduled for March 11, 2013, after attorneys for suspect Reyes-Alfaro said court-appointed psychiatrists needed more time to evaluate if he is competent to stand trial, according to a report on InsideNova.com

The experts are also looking to learn more about the Reyes-Alfaro's mental health during the time the crimes were committed.

Reyes-Alfaro is facing for the shooting deaths of Manassas residents Brenda Ashcraft, 57, and William Ashcraft, 37, at their home on Hood Road in the Georgetown South neighborhood on the evening of Feb. 10. Reyes-Alfaro then went to a home on Brent Street where he fatally shot his friend, 48-year-old Julio Cesar Ulloa.

He is also facing for shooting a 15-year-old girl and her mother and attacking a 77-year-old woman with a machete. All three survived the attack. Reyes-Alfaro, is also facing, court documents state.

Reyes-Alfaro was located and detained in the early morning hours of Feb. 11, 2011, the day after the shootings.

The incident and loss of lives prompted city officials to area where the shooting deaths occurred. Just this past weekend, the , which focused on gathering volunteers in the community to help neighborhood staff and residents clean up yards and common areas in the neighborhood.
