Tropical Storm Alberto is expected to bring rain and a chance of thunderstorms to the area this week.
Alberto was swirling off the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina Sunday and was projected to take a northeast track out to sea by as early as Monday. Tropical Storm conditions are not expected on shore, but high surf and dangerous rip currents could occurr along the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, and northeastern Florida for the early part of the week, according to the National Weather Service.
There's a chance of showers and possible thunderstorms everyday this week in the northern Virgina area until Thursday. The forecast indicates the soggy weather will make way for sunshine by Friday. Rainfall amounts under two inches total are expected this week, according to the NWS. There's also a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday and a 40 percent chance for Wednesday and Thursday, which could bring higher amounts of rainfall.

The weather system is also expected to produce muggy conditions and warmer temperatures— near 80 degrees— through Thursday.
