VA Man Arrested After Fleeing Scene Of Fatal Crash: Police
A 39-year-old man crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole in Rockingham County early Saturday morning, killing a passenger.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA — A driver crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole in Rockingham County early Saturday morning, killing a passenger, the Virginia State Police said Monday. The fatal crash occurred just outside Elkton on Route 635 near the intersection with Bethel Church Road.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, Mark W. Shifflett, 39, of Elkton, was uninjured in the crash, which occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday. Keith A. Shifflett, 41, of Elkton died at the scene of the crash as a result of his injuries. Elkton is located about 15 miles east of Harrisonburg.
After crashing the truck, Shifflett fled the scene of the crash on foot but was located a short time later, the police said. He was charged with driving under the influence and is being held at the Rockingham Regional Jail.
