Virginia Lottery Winner: $1M For Warrenton Man

After he won $1,000,000 with a Virginia Lottery ticket, a Warrenton resident kept it secret for quite a while—and he had his reasons.

WARRENTON, VA—The past two months must have been thrilling and at the same time confounding for Warrenton resident Fred Dove. He had a secret, you see, and it was a secret he wasn't willing to share with anyone.

Namely, he had a Virginia Lottery ticket worth a cool $1 million after playing the "20X the Money" game. "I was so excited, but I needed a plan," he told lottery officials after finally redeeming his ticket. "I needed to get my thoughts in order."

So get them in order the handyman he did, while also finishing a couple of jobs for clients. After that, he decided it was time. Here's the kicker, though. He still hasn't decided what he might do with the $657,030 before taxes (Dove chose the cash option) but is pretty sure he'll treat himself to something nice.

Dove bought the ticket in New Baltimore Shell at 5021 Lee Highway in Warrenton, which picked up a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. His chances of winning were 1 in 162,800.
