PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — On Monday, residents and businesses in Prince William County will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Prince William County.

Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our region:

  • Prince William County government offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Prince William County Schools: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Prince William County courts: All Prince William County courts will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Libraries: All Prince William County libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Post offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • OmniRide: OmniRide Express buses will not operate on Monday, but all other buses will operate on their regular schedule.
  • VRE: VRE trains will not operate on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • DMV: All DMV customer service centers will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Landfill: Prince William County's landfill and compost center will be open regular hours on Monday, Jan. 16.
  • Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus typically run on a Saturday schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
