The stabbing occurred around 10:45 a.m. at the Regency Apartments on Shallow Creek Loop in Manassas. A caller dialed 911 to report that a woman outside of the apartment building was injured. Witnesses also said the victim had a dispute with a man that morning.
When officers reached the apartment building, they found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the neck. The officers used a portable stretcher to move her to a safer location and provided first aid until an ambulance arrived, according to the police report.
First responders took her to an area hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries, authorities said.
Officers checked a nearby apartment during their investigation and determined that the suspect was the victim's son. A witness told authorities that they saw the man, who they identified as Wilds, walking along the train tracks on Bristow Road.
When officers found the man, he refused to stop, the police department said. Police officers followed him until he eventually stopped and was taken into custody.
