Investigators said the victim, a 29-year-old woman, woke up and found Vaughn in her bedroom. Vaughn then got on top of the victim and grabbed her neck, according to authorities.

"At some point during the struggle, the victim stabbed the accused before the parties separated," the police department said in its report.

Authorities noted that Vaughn and the victim knew each other already. The police department believes Vaughn entered the home through an unlocked door.

When police officers arrived at the home around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, they found Vaughn suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. First responders took him to an area hospital for treatment.

After Vaughn was released from the hospital, police officers arrested him. He was taken to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center as he awaits his court date.
