MCLEAN, VA — Voters in McLean’s 14 precincts turned out in force on Tuesday to support a statewide constitutional amendment, providing a critical pillar of support for the measure’s passage in Fairfax County during the April 21 special election.
The amendment, which authorizes the General Assembly to redraw congressional districts for the remainder of the decade, saw its highest margins of support in Northern Virginia. In McLean, the "Yes" campaign carried every precinct, with several locations reporting more than 75 percent approval for the change in redistricting authority.
While the amendment faced stiff opposition in rural regions of the Commonwealth, the high margins in populous areas like Fairfax County secured a narrow statewide victory.
McLean voters, primarily located within the Dranesville and Providence Supervisor Districts, showed a unified front in favor of the measure.

The passage of the amendment triggers the immediate implementation of a new congressional map passed by the General Assembly earlier this year. Supporters argue the move is necessary to counter partisan redistricting in other states, while opponents characterized the amendment as an erosion of the independent commission process established in 2020.
As a result of redistricting, McLean will be in 11th Congressional District, which now extends to the state's western border. The new 11th District will include Manassas, Manassas Park, and Front Royal.
On Aug. 4, incumbent U.S. Rep. James Walkenshaw (D) will face three opponents in the Democratic Party primary: Bree Fram, a transgender Space Force officer ousted by President Trump; State Sen. Stella Pekarsky (D-Centreville); and attorney Amy Roma.
The winner of the primary will face Republican candidate Nathan Headrick in the Nov. 3 general election.
Results remain unofficial until certified by the State Board of Elections.
