MCLEAN, VA — A planned temporary lane split on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road at Route 123 in McLean has been postponed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT Northern Virginia said Thursday morning on X that the traffic change has been postponed and that the agency will post an update when a new date has been established.
The lane split had been scheduled to begin around 10 p.m. Thursday, June 25, weather permitting, on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road, also known as Route 267, at Route 123, or Dolley Madison Boulevard.
Under the planned temporary configuration, the right lane of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road would continue straight, while the left lane would be diverted left through a temporary crossover onto the eastbound Dulles Airport Access Road, VDOT said.
The lane split is part of the Dulles Toll Road eastbound bridge rehabilitation project over Route 123.
VDOT had said the temporary traffic pattern would remain in place for about 18 months, allowing crews to work safely on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road bridge over Route 123 while limiting disruptions to traffic.
All eastbound Dulles Toll Road ramps to and from Route 123 are expected to remain open during the project, according to VDOT.
The project includes replacing the bridge’s concrete deck, parapets and steel beams; repairing piers and abutments; and replacing the overhead sign structure on the eastbound Dulles Toll Road just before the bridge.
The bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed in early 2028.
VDOT reminded drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to use caution in active work zones, watch for new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
